This pottery is hand-made from stoneware, a durable form of ceramic fired to thousand-degree temperatures; however, washing by hand is always recommended.
Bare (unglazed) areas of clay have been sealed with Liquid Quartz, making them waterproof and resistant to stains and microbes.
